Lee has been a culinary educator for 14 years, and Larry has lovingly grown sustainable produce and fruit for over 10 years. What Lee loved most about teaching was creating and sharing delicious meals from those foods grown on their farm which enhance health and fight disease. As a 14 year cancer survivor this very quickly became a calling for Lee. She shared her passion through her healthy cooking classes held at their previous home in Greensboro and then eventually at the couple’s Farm in Chapel Hill, NC. She regularly spoke publicly to groups about strategies for good health through cooking. Once the farm has sold her goal is to continue to teach small classes from their next home.
The Newlins grew beautiful, sustainably grown produce that included an array of vegetables, berries, herbs, and edible flowers. These foods were the incubator for many of Lee’s creative and healthful recipes.
Larry’s thirty years in horticulture provide a foundation for sustainably growing fruits and vegetables, and compounded with his passion for sharing the joys of the garden his farm is just as much a celebration of life as it is a source of nourishment. Larry agrees with author, poet, and farmer Wendell Berry: “What I stand for is what I stand on.”
